Where to stay
Central area (Markazia) north
Around the King Fahd Gate and the northern courtyards: many large hotels, a few minutes’ walk.
Central area south and west
Close to the Bab as-Salam side and the markets; also a short walk.
Towards Quba
Quba Mosque, the first mosque in Islam, is about 3.5 km south of the Prophet’s Mosque — a short taxi ride.
Getting there
Madinah airport has direct flights from Europe and via the Gulf and Istanbul. The Haramain high-speed railway links Madinah and Makkah in about 2½ hours, so many pilgrims begin in Madinah and continue to Makkah by train.
Good to know
- A visit to the Rawdah needs a booked slot in the Nusuk app.
- Many pilgrims fly into Madinah and home from Jeddah — book two one-way flights to do the same.
- Distances here are straight lines; the walk to your gate may be longer.
Questions
How long should I stay in Madinah?
Many pilgrims spend 3–5 nights in Madinah before or after Makkah. It depends on your plans; the central hotels make even a short stay rich.
Do hotels in Madinah serve alcohol?
No. Alcohol is not served in hotels in Saudi Arabia.
How do I get from Madinah to Makkah?
By the Haramain high-speed train (about 2½ hours) or by car or bus (about 4–5 hours). Enter ihram before the miqat at Dhul Hulayfah if you continue to Umrah.
